Each year, the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), in partnership with the Jamaica Lifesaving Society, conducts approximately four lifeguard exams across Jamaica.

These exams are typically held between April and September in major locations such as Doctor’s Cave Beach, Ocho Rios Bay Beach, University of Technology Jamaica, and Long Bay Beach Park. To participate, applicants must complete certified training, meet basic fitness and swimming requirements, and pass both practical and theory assessments. Successful candidates receive a lifeguard licence valid for one year.
